The college seeks to expand the Wisconsin Idea beyond our state and nation by providing an education that prepares students to contribute to and flourish in the multicultural, multinational world of the 21st century.
To recruit and retain quality students, the College of Letters and Science awards scholarships on the basis of a combination of factors, including: academic merit, creative accomplishment, financial need, diversity of background, force of character, leadership, and commitment to community.
The College of Letters and Science strongly supports the University’s commitment to increasing need-based aid and scholarships to provide increased affordability and access to undergraduate students and to improve the undergraduate experience at UW-Madison.
Whenever possible (and in-line with donor criteria and college values) scholarships are awarded to students with financial need to attract and retain our brightest and most promising students.
To be eligible for an L&S Scholarship, students must be pursuing a degree in Letters & Science. Continuing students must have completed at least two full-time semesters at UW-Madison and have a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average.
If a recipient transfers to another school or college on the UW-Madison campus or graduates, s/he will no longer be eligible to receive L&S scholarship funds, unless explicitly noted in the scholarship's description.
