PSP is a summer research program designed to cultivate and strengthen undergraduate students' research skills in the humanities, sciences or social sciences. Pathways Scholars serves as a bridge with the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URS) and the McNair Scholars program. The ultimate aim of PSP is to support students in their preparation for graduate school or professional careers. A student accepted as a Pathways Scholar will participate in an eight-week program with approximately 10 other students. The program provides academic and financial support.
Pathways Scholars is committed to offering strong mentoring relationships with faculty and research experience, both crucial factors in preparation for graduate school. Under the guidance of a faculty member, PSP students will:
- develop a topic of interest
- conduct formal research on this topic
- write up the research according to professional academic standards
- present the research in a professional-style form
Students Accepted into the program will be supported both academically and financially through:
- regular meetings with the faculty mentor to provide intellectual support and guidance.
- opportunities to meet graduate students and other people in their research area who can serve as a support network.
- weekly meetings with a Writing Fellow to asssist you with writing your research paper for a scholarly audience (e.g. a journal or conference paper). This will also build skills in reviewing and editing research papers.
- bi-weekly writing workshops to assist with presenting research for a scholarly audience (e.g. a journal or conference paper). This will also build skills in reviewing and editing research papers.
- a workshop on the process of applying to graduate school.
- on-campus housing
- an on-campus meal plan
- a stipend of $2,500.00.
