Schools of Hope Volunteer Opportunities

  1. Literacy tutors: Tutors work with students in one-on-one and one-on-two settings under the direction of the classroom teacher. Tutors work closely with teachers to understand and support the curriculum that is being presented in the classroom. Tutors work with the same students regularly and are able to forge relationships with students and see their progress throughout the year. Tutor trainings are offered regularly and cover both basic and advanced aspects of literacy tutoring.
  2. Community volunteers: Schools of Hope places volunteers in several community centers in Madison. Community center programs vary widely, from after-school reading clubs and homework helping to drama clubs and organized play. Community center programs can be the perfect fit for volunteers who are available after school or during the summer.
  3. Math tutors: Tutors work with students in one-on-one and one-on-two settings under the direction of the classroom teacher. Tutors work with the same students regularly and are able to forge relationships with students and see their progress throughout the year. Math tutor trainings are offered regularly.
  4. Preschool programs: The goal of the Preschools of Hope VISTA Project is to support preschool children's early literacy and early math development, and to increase literacy resources at non-profit preschools, community centers and in children's homes. The primary focus is on children from low-income families.

The Preschools of Hope Project is recruiting volunteers to:

Projects like these, however, do not work without volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering, and have just one hour a week to devote to the cause, then call (608) 441-7895.
