mission statement

No one pathway can serve all students - each discovers their passion for learning in different places and different ways. But whether students find their pathway to excellence in a classroom, a research lab, a residence hall, or the Memorial Union, such experiences have one crucial quality in common - each puts undergraduates at the heart of the university, at the center of learning.

Sponsored by the College of Letters and Science and the Office of Student Academic Affairs, Pathways to Excellence provides support to programs that promote an outstanding liberal arts education and find new ways for students to make a difference on campus.

Pathways is based on support for the values of engagement, empowerment, and community: engagement to learning and to the larger world; empowerment of undergraduates to play a central role in the educational mission of the university; and community building as a way to help students learn as much from each other as they do from the formal curriculum. In short, Pathways is about providing undergraduates with the opportunity to have what they thought was impossible become possible, to discover their own capacity for excellence.
