Why FIGs? How?
Why should you consider enrolling in a FIG? What are the advantages?
Each FIG is a learning community that complements the classroom experience. Being in a FIG allows new freshmen to meet other students with similar interests. FIG students also get to connect with faculty in a small seminar environment. Working and studying together allows students in FIGs to share ideas, discover new insights, and develop lasting friendships.
The integration of the courses within each FIG helps students discover how disciplines relate to one another, thus creating a richer educational experience. As a result, students in FIGs generally experience greater academic success (higher grade point averages) and higher retention rates.
How can I enroll?
When you come to campus for SOAR, you will meet with an academic adviser to select your courses. If you are interested in participating in a FIG, be sure to ask about available spaces in any FIGs that interest you. The following list of FIGs proposed for Fall 2007 is provided here to help give you an idea of the breadth of topics covered within the FIGs program and to help you identify several options that would appeal to your academic interests. Please keep in mind that spaces are limited in each FIG, so it is a good idea to choose several alternatives from among the FIGs being offered. Additional enrollment details will be provided during SOAR.
