The main course of this FIG, "Education and Public Policy," will draw on recent research investigating the role of youth development programs and policies in the lives of urban youth and through community-based action research to develop ideas for strengthening local approaches to meeting the needs of urban youth. Students will conduct action research on youth programs and critically examine local approaches to fostering positive developmental outcomes for youth. The two linking classes, "Problems of American Racial and Ethnic Minorities" and "Adolescent Development," will provide critical background for understanding the context of youth development programs.
