Race, Ethnicity, and Inequality in American Education

This FIG will explore issues of racial and ethnic diversity in the United States. Educational Policy Studies 200 examines the role that race and ethnicity play in urban and suburban schools in the United States. The course will focus on how issues of power and race affect relationship between students from different groups and relationship between students and teachers. A central focus will be on helping to prepare students interested in the field of education to work in multicultural contexts. Curriculum and Instruction 375 is a seminar course that explores new frontiers in curriculum and instruction; students in this course will have the opportunity to tutor children in local schools. English 100 will provide students with further opportunities to explore issues of race and ethnicity through research, reading, and essay writing.
