eRecruiting Student Guide
What is eRecruiting and how can it help you find a job or internship?
eRecruiting is an online system used by our office to assist Letters and Science students at UW-Madison in their job and internship search by offering the following services:
  • The ability to participate in on-campus interviews.
  • The ability to search job and internship listings that are geared specifically for Letters and Science students.
  • To publish your resumes to our resume books so employers who are specifically seeking Letters and Science students can contact you directly about position openings.
  • Access to eRecruiting’s national database that has hundreds of position listings from employers across the U.S. targeting a variety of students.
  • Access to Vault, one of the largest online career libraries – giving you access to information about career fields and industries, company profiles, articles and postings.

Registration for eRecruiting
It’s a great deal! Stop by the Letters and Science Career Services office and get registered for eRecruiting for FREE! You will be given an individual username and password. Continue to use eRecruiting after graduation – once you register you have access to this system until one year after your graduation date.

Login to the system: When you have your username and password, login to eRecruiting at http://uwmadisonls.erecruiting.com/er/security/login.jsp

Complete your profile, then upload and publish your resume
When you login for the first time, eRecruiting will lead you through a step-by-step process for setting up your account. Complete your profile, upload your resume(s) and then publish (submit) your resume to a resume book! You must follow these steps to complete your registration.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You have two weeks to complete your profile, upload and publish your resume. Failure to do so will result in your account being inactivated. To re-activate your account you must contact Solomon Woldesemayat at swoldese@wisc.edu or 608-262-3921.

Do you need help with your resume?
Don’t worry! We’re here to help. Having a professional, polished resume is the most important step in obtaining an opportunity to interview. We offer the following resume services:

Information about on-campus interviews

There are two types of on-campus interview schedules:
Open Interview Schedules: As the name suggests these schedules are open to students who meet the specific requirements of the position listing. Apply directly online.
Pre-select Interview Schedules: For this type of schedule you must submit your resume and wait for the employer’s decision before you can sign-up for an interview.

Employer decisions on pre-select interviews are labeled as follows:

  • Accepted: the employer has accepted your application and you may sign-up for an interview within the time period indicated.
  • Alternate: the employer has accepted you as an alternate for an interview.
  • Undecided: the employer has yet to make a decision on your application.
  • Declined: the employer has declined your application for an interview.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All interviews are held at the Letters and Science Career Services Office at 1305 Linden Drive, Suite 205 (unless otherwise noted).

Interview Times
On the day of your interview, please arrive at least 10 minutes in advance of your interview time and check in at the front desk. This will give you time to complete any required paperwork and time to relax before your interview.

TIP: Visit the calendar of events to see which employers are coming to campus for on-campus interviews and associated events (i.e. informational sessions) – a great way to informally connect with employers.

Cancellation and No-Show policies

Cancellation Policy
You have until TWO business days prior to your actual interview date to cancel your interview appointment. Interviews may be cancelled via your eRecruiting account. If you encounter difficulties, please call 608-262-3921 or 608-262-3923 and give your name and the name of the company with whom you are interviewing. Otherwise, any interview that is cancelled less than 2 business days (A business day is defined as follows: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) before the scheduled appointment will be considered a late cancellation.
For a first late cancellation of an interview appointment with a recruiter, you will receive a warning letter from our recruiting coordinator, and you will be expected to write a letter of apology to that company. You must send a copy of that letter to the attention of Solomon Woldesemayat at swoldese@wisc.edu , who will then forward your letter to the recruiter. Failure to do so will result in your account being inactivated
After a second late cancellation of an interview appointment, your eRecruiting account will be inactivated for the remainder of the academic year. If you also have an account at the Business Career Center (BCC) that account will be inactivated as well. If you want to contest the inactivation, you must meet with the Director of the Letters and Science Career Services Office.

Interview No-Shows
Missing a scheduled interview appointment is considered an “interview no-show”.  For a first “interview no-show,” you will receive a warning letter from our recruiting coordinator, and you will be expected to write a letter of apology to the recruiter you have failed to meet.  You must send a copy of that letter to the attention of Solomon Woldesemayat at swoldese@wisc.edu , who will then forward your letter to the recruiter. Failure to do so will result in your account being inactivated
After a second “interview no-show,” your eRecruiting account will be inactivated for the remainder of the academic year. If you also have an account at the Business Career Center (BCC) that account will be inactivated as well. If you want to contest the inactivation, you must meet with the Director of the Letters and Science Career Services Office.

Business Career Center Passport

Letters and Science/Human Ecology students are welcome to participate in a reciprocity program with the Business Career Center (BCC). In order for you to participate in the recruiting program at the Business School, you must obtain a BCC passport. To receive a passport you must follow the procedures below:

  1. Register for eRecruiting and pay the one time $15 fee at the Letters and Science Career Services Office.
  2. Complete your eRecruiting registration within two weeks by completing your profile, uploading and publishing your resume.
  3. Once your registration is complete, email Solomon Woldesemayat at swoldese@wisc.edu to request a passport. Within two business days, you will receive an email confirmation of your eligibility to participate in the passport program.
  4. You can bring this email to the BCC, register for their system and pay the BCC fee of $20.
  5. You must interview for positions through the Letters and Science Career Services Office. The only time you will be allowed to interview at the BCC is when the position is not offered through the Letters and Science/Human Ecology Career Services Office. Check the calendar of events on eRecruiting for interview positions offered through our office.
  6. If you violate any of the cancellation and no-show policies for interviews outlined by the BCC your account with the BCC and the Letters and Science Career Services office will be inactivated or terminated.
