Advisors are also available throughout
the year to conduct workshops for student organizations, academic departments,
and student services units. To request a workshop, fill out the request form here.
Guidelines for requesting a workshop through L&S Career Services:
- We require advance notice for workshops requests - the sooner you request the better.
- We prefer to schedule workshops for mid to late in the semester, as we are busier with advising and counseling appointments in the beginning of each semester.
- This office serves students in the College of Letters & Science (undergraduate and graduate and for one year after graduation). Your group does not need to have only L&S students, but it should have a lot!
- We can create workshops on other topics than just what is listed on the request form. Submit the request, filling in the "Other" line for topic. The presenter will contact you to talk about your idea.
- We expect you to take care of room reservations, all advertising, and food (if you are going to have it - we do recommend food as a way to get students there!!)
- Due to limited staff availability, we prefer to present workshops to groups of at least 10 students. Please make sure you are advertising the event adequately.
- We usually use PowerPoint or show some websites. We have a laptop computer and LCD projector we can bring with us, but we do prefer for the group to provide this equipment if they have it. We do need a space with a screen to project on to!
- We do offer a variety of workshops during the year on our own (not requested by a specific group). Follow this link to see a list of our upcoming workshops.
- We welcome your open and honest feedback about the requesting process, the interaction with your presenter, the quality and content of the workshop, and anything else you would like to share with us
This is the process you can expect for workshop requests:
- You submit your request
- The Advising Team Leader will bring the request to the next Advising Team meeting (held on Tuesday afternoons)
- The Advising Team will decide if we can fill the request
- If no, the Advising Team Leader will contact you within one day of the meeting.
- If yes, the workshop will be assigned to a staff person and they will contact you within two days of the meeting. You will then work with this person for the remainder of the planning.
