Should I declare BABS07?

Am I a good candidate to declare BABS07?
Most students can benefit from the new requirements. That doesn't mean they must change. Here are some reasons to consider declaring BABS07:
  • If you have taken, or plan to take, a NO course, or a graduate course for which you didn't receive credit under CURRIC71, it will count for BABS07.
  • If you had problems fulfilling the 80-credit rule under CURRIC71, you don't have to meet it under BABS07.
  • If you violated the 10-credit limit for Breadth under CURRIC71, you don't have to worry about that under BABS07.
  • If you meet the criteria for the Alternate Senior Residence Requirement you might consider it a practical convenience.

Might I NOT want to declare BABS07?
There are a few reasons to consider carefully before declaring BABS07:
  • If you have taken - or plan to take - more than 12 T-credits. CURRIC71 allowed for twenty T-credits within the degree. BABS07 will count T-credits as Free Electives, with room for only twelve within the required 120 credits for the degree.
  • If you are exempt from University General Education Requirements (UGER) Students matriculating to post-secondary instruction prior to Summer 1996 do not have to do UGER. BABS07 requires it. It could mean four more courses for you if you adopt UGER with BABS07.
  • If you have Breadth categories or the Intermediate/Advanced level requirements satisfied with T-credits under CURRIC71, they will not automatically count for those requirements under BABS07. Check a DARS and consult your advisor before proceeding; an Academic Dean may consider a request for T-credits to meet these requirements.
  • If there is no advantage to declaring BABS07, you may wish to stay with CURRIC71. That is, if none of the conditions in the previous section apply to you, consider whether it is worth it to change.

For whom is this not an option?
Some students are ineligible for CURRIC71, because their first college matriculation is Summer 2007 or later. These students are already in BABS07 and do not have to declare it. If this applies to you, please do not submit a request to declare BABS07.
