2009-10 MCAT Preparatory Course Registration Instructions

Thank you for your interest in the Letters and Science Advising Services 2009-10 MCAT Prep Course.  Please read these instructions carefully so that you understand what the course entails and how to apply.

Our MCAT course meets twice weekly from mid-October to mid-April, excluding Winter and Spring Breaks as well as exam weeks.  Each class period lasts two and a half hours.  The classes meet on the UW campus in the evenings.  The course covers the biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and verbal reasoning topics that appear on the MCAT exam; we also do sessions on writing and cultural competency, as well as a medical student panel.

Please note that this course carries a heavy workload.  In order to effectively prepare for the MCAT, students in the course should be prepared to treat it as part of their regular course-load.  Please consider this when making decisions about what other courses to take next Fall and Spring semesters.  Although you will not receive academic credit for the class, think of it as a 3-4 credit commitment.  Preparation for class will require approximately 5-7 hours of work each week.

The tuition for the course is $675.  A limited number of tuition remissions to reduce the tuition costs will be available to students who qualify.  Please see the Application Part D in order to apply for tuition remission.  Questions about tuition remission should be directed to Susan Nelson at 262-5858.

The procedure for applying to the course is as follows:

  • Fill out the online registration form.
  • You will receive an e-mail confirming your initial registration.  Space in the class is limited; if we receive your application after the initial registration is full, you will be put on a waiting list and contacted via e-mail should a space open up.
  • Once you have received the confirmation e-mail, you will be on the class list.  You will receive an e-mail at the end of June reminding you that it is time for your non-refundable tuition payment.  You should get us a $100 deposit by July 1, 2009 and the remaining balance by September 1, 2009.  Your full tuition must be received by September 1, 2009 or you will lose your seat in the course.  Checks should be payable to University of Wisconsin-Madison.  After you submit your non-refundable tuition, you will have a confirmed spot in the class.  This tuition includes access to three on-line practice exams.  Two of these exams will be administered in a computer lab under conditions that mimic the actual MCAT test.
  • If at any time you change your mind about signing up for the course, you must e-mail or call Susan Nelson at the UAS office immediately. (See the contact information at the bottom of this sheet.)
  • You may not give, sell, or otherwise transfer your seat in the class on or after the first day of class.

Thank you again for your interest in the 2009-10 MCAT class.  Please contact Susan Nelson at 262-5858 with any further questions.
