Information about the Appeals Process

Students have the opportunity to appeal the “dropped for one year status” from the University of Wisconsin-Madison by participating in the Appeals Process. It is important to know that appealing your drop does not guarantee you will be readmitted to the University. This is only for students who have been dropped at the conclusion of the most recent term.

The Appeals Process has two parts.

  1. Complete and submit the following web form to sign up for an appointment on a specific date. Please note that if you are unable to attend on that date or miss your appointment you can not reschedule.
  2. After submitting your web form you will be contacted with an appointment time. During your appointment you will meet with an Appeals Committee (consisting of an assistant dean and two faculty members) to discuss the factors or circumstances that led to your poor academic performance; how these factors or circumstances have been resolved; and your specific plan for academic success.

Completing the questions in the webform will help you prepare for your appointment.

Please allow yourself time for reflection on your responses. If necessary, type the questions and answers on a word document to cut and paste into the webform.

Upcoming Appeal Dates and Deadlines


  • May 29, 2009 (Friday): This date is for students dropped for one year following Spring 2009 and would like to be considered for summer 2009 readmission. Students should already be enrolled in summer courses. Deadline for submitting webform: May 27, 2009 - noon

  • June 5, 2009 (Friday):This date is reserved for students dropped for one year following Spring 2009 and would like to be considered for Fall 2009 readmission. Students may be given the option of June 12th and we may use June 12th for overflow. Deadline for submitting webform: June 3, 2009 - noon

  • August 28, 2009 (Friday): This date is reserved for students dropped as a result of Summer 2009 and would like to be considered for Fall 2009 readmission. Deadline for submitting webform: August 25, 2009 - noon
