Scheduling Appointments with L&S Undergraduate Academic Services Staff

Advising

Most students are assigned UAS advisors through attending SOAR. Students who also transfer into the College of Letters & Science from other on-campus UW Madison colleges and schools are also assigned UAS advisors. If your advisor is in UAS you can schedule online through WiscCal or by calling 608-262-5858. Advisors do not schedule by email contact.

Other advising offices are located in Cross-College Advising Service, L&S Honors, and in various schools and colleges across campus, as well as in major departments.  Please determine your advisor's name and their advising office before making contact. This information can be found in your MyUW Student Center. For more information;

Prepping for an advising appointment:

Bring a copy of your DARS. Instructions on how to print a DARS are found here.

Bring a list of questions that you have for your advisor. Compile the list during the time between advising appointments.

Be prepared to discuss 2-3 goals that you have for your freshman and sophomore year.

Exceptions to Academic Policies

Sometimes students need to request an exception to academic policies in order to continue their undergraduate career or ensure they make satisfactory academic progress. Students are usually referred to an assistant dean through their academic advisor, the Dean of Students office, Admissions or the Registrar. If you need to make an appointment with an academic assistant dean for any legitimate reason, you are requested to call 608-262-5858. Appointments requests are not available via web or email at this time.

Prepping for an assistant dean appointment:

Exceptions to policy usually require preparation on the student's behalf. Bring any documentation that would support your case for an exception (if necessary).

Some requests are made through online forms. Please see the menu bar to the left to see if your request can be fulfilled online.

If you have any questions about documentation or if it's needed, or appointments in general, email us or ask the receptionist at 608-262-5858.
